Marvi Memon


Marvi Memon  August 21, 1972), is a conservative politician and businesswoman, serving as the central and public figure of the Pakistan Muslim League presided by Nawaz Sharif.

Prior to her career in national politics, Memon had a successful career in country's corporate world. In 2003, she served in the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) as the military's operational media director and served as highest ranking civilian official in General Pervez Musharraf's military staff. Finally, she brought up in national politics by Shaukat Aziz in 2004 and important assignments in defense, economics and foreign affairs.

Marvi Memon was born in Karachi, Sindh Province of Pakistan. Her father, Nisar Memon, is a prominent educator, statesman, and former Senator from Sindh Province. After subsequently completing her schooling in Karachi and Paris, she attended the London School of Economics in United Kingdom. She graduated from London School of Economics with a double BSc degree in Economics with Honors and in International relations.

The National Assembly, resignations and current political work

When she entered public politics, Marvi Memon was affiliated with the center-right conservative party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PLM-Q). In March 2008, she was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a Member of Parliament.

Marvi Memon became a senior leader of the PLM-Q and a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. On June 22, 2011, Memon resigned both from the PLM-Q, because of her stated concerns regarding the party's "corrupt and incompetent treasury benches". She resigned simultaneously from her post in the National Assembly. More than seven months after her resignations, she chose to join the PML-N party, which was announced on March 4, 2012. 

As of April 2012, Memon was serving as senior representative of the centre-right conservative party, Pakistan Muslim League-N. She functioned as Special Envoy to the Pakistani public on behalf of Pakistani steel magnate and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the current President of PML-N.

Business career
Marvi Memon had internships at Dawn (newspaper), Newsline (magazine), Pakistan Institute of International Affairs, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature. After graduation, Memon joined Citibank. Her initial responsibilities were in marketing and quality management. Upon leaving Citibank, Memon went to work at the government-owned Pakistan Television Corporation.
Later, Marvi Memon helped launch an entrepreneurial venture, Trakker. Trakker was Pakistan’s first satellite tracking fleet management firm. Memon became the youngest female CEO of a multinational firm in Pakistan to that time.
