JNU to Kashmir : The anatomy of protests and right to freedom of speech

A Kashmiri Muslim protester engulfed in tear gas smoke shouts slogans against India during a protest in Srinagar, Indian controlled Kashmir. Government forces fired tear gas and pellet guns to stop hundreds of rock-throwing Kashmiri youths in Indian-controlled Kashmir after Friday prayers.

They were protesting the arrest of a Delhi University lecturer, S.A.R. Geelani, and a student leader of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on charges of sedition for raising anti-India slogans. Geelani also allegedly criticized the 2013 hanging of a Kashmiri man Afzal Guru convicted of attacking Indian Parliament.
